Today’s psalm: “The Lord is my light and my salvation. Of whom should I be afraid?”
The verse on the cover of my new journal, Joshua 1:9: “Be strong and courageous, do not be afraid; do not be discouraged. For the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.”
Zach William’s song “Fear is a Liar” which came on during my prayer time today.
It’s so natural to hear “Don’t be afraid” and immediately think, “There’s something to be afraid of? BE AFRAID!” God seems to have been sending me messages like the above on repeat, and the message is “don’t be afraid” but the thing I automatically do in response is to be afraid. But He has a good reason to tell me not to fear–He actually is the strongest! When people say not to fear, I suppose it makes sense that we’d fear because they don’t actually control anything and the idea that we shouldn’t be scared just raises awareness of there being something to be scared of. But when God says it…I can actually listen. If He’s telling me not to fear, it’s because He does intend to make it all work out–whatever that looks like. He keeps telling me not to fear this incredible future. I can trust Him.
