Hans Gude was a Norwegian Romanticist painter born on March 13, 1825. He is one of the most prominent landscape painters of Norway, and his masterpieces are especially captivating when about warm sunlight or moonlight illuminating the reflective surfaces of lively water. He impacted the world not only with his artwork, but also by mentoring other artists and teaching at the School of Art in Karlsruhe. He won many awards throughout his life, including Grand Cross of the Order of St. Olav.
