Aelbert Cuyp was a Dutch painter of landscapes, born on October 20, 1620. His whole family was one of artists, Aelbert the most famous among them. He was particularly inspired by his father, Jacob.
Cuyp’s landscapes were often set in the gentle light of early morning or late afternoon. This peaceful effect was accomplished by setting the sunlight near the horizon and touching the details of the scene with a softly golden hue. He sought to communicate the landscape as an enchanting one, letting others experience through his work the peacefulness into which he immersed himself in reality.
