The Trap Sprung by William Sidney Mount

William Sidney Mount was an American painter born on November 26, 1807 in New York.  He painted scenes of everyday life, and his work focused largely on lively interactions between people.  He was also a composer and player of the fiddle.  Much of his visual art reflects his musical passions.

As you can see, Mount had a talent for helping his viewers to be caught up in the moment of his scenes.  You feel like you’re there.  You want to run up that hill to the trap with those boys, to dance to the beat of the music you’re sure you can hear.  He not only paints a moment mid-motion; he composes his work in an inviting way.  You want to be there, and you feel welcomed into the scene.
