Alan Lee has been one of my favorite artists since basically forever. He so perfectly captures the spirit of the stories by J.R.R. Tolkien.
Alan Lee was born on August 20, 1947 in Middlesex, England. He has illustrated countless books, but he is best known for the pictures he painted for Tolkien’s various books. He also worked with John Howe as a concept artist for Peter Jackson’s Lord of the Rings and Hobbit movies. Jackson said of him, “His art captured what I hoped to capture with the films.”^1
Below are shown many of my favorites of Lee’s work. It was hard to narrow them down, so I didn’t really try!
