Théodore Chassériau was a French Romantic painter born on September 20, 1819 in what is now the Dominican Republic. Among his works are portraits and historical and religious paintings, many of an allegorical nature. The featured painting, Danseuses Mauresques, translates as The Moorish Dancers.
Below are pictured Scène de Bataille, Guerrier Gaulois à Cheval (Battle Scene, Gallic Warrior on Horseback) and Le Coucher de Desdémone (The Sunset Desdemona).
