My husband Silvio and I both love The Lord of the Rings. For our wedding, I wore Arwen’s Evenstar necklace. That was partly because it just looked amazing with my dress, but I also loved the symbolism: it was a sign that she would sacrifice anything, even her immortality, for the sake of Aragorn and her love for him. I want so much to love with that much selflessness. It’s scary–being a wife is hard for anyone, but I don’t want to settle for just being a wife. I want to be a holy and noble wife. In a small way, the Evenstar was symbolic of that for me.

On our wedding day, we took a picture posed like Aragorn and Arwen when she tells him, “I would rather spend one lifetime with you than face all the ages of this world alone.” So for his birthday, I decided to draw something Elvish with it.
