I’m Here

There’s a scene in The Passion of the Christ in which Jesus falls, and Mary bursts through the violent crowd to be at His side. She has a flashback to when Jesus was a small child and stumbled and fell, and she gathered Him into her arms and held Him, comforting Him. She does the same thing now. “I’m here,” she says to Him both times. Jesus passionately says to her, “See, Mother, I make all things new.”

And then, as He struggles to His feet, the weight of the cross on His already nearly lifeless body, she helps Him up. It is such a powerful and beautiful moment.
