This painting was a response to a creative project in a class I took in college–and the best part was, the class was all about JRR Tolkien and his works! I’ve always loved Tolkien and the Lord of the Rings, so I decided to paint him dreaming up the various aspects of Middle Earth. In the class I took, I learned that Tolkien thought of himself as a hobbit, so in my picture I depicted him that way–in his yellow vest, smoking in a comfortable armchair by a round window, and dreaming of the world outside his door. Each of the scenes he’s imagining are labeled with their title, but in Angerthas runes. (My signature is also duplicated in the runes).
